Okay… it’s been a while since I’ve been able to post anything but new shoots, so here’s a few updates.
First, I’m excited to announce that we have added a separate site just for High School Seniors. It’s called “The Senior Image” and it’s still Under Construction. Check it out here & let us know what you think.
On a related note…In an effort to ease the burden of typing in such a long URL, I’ve added another (shorter) one that will get you there. www.tcppix.com
After several requests, we have also decided to teach a photography class. These days ”fauxtographers” are everywhere (So much so that most people cant tell the difference…) and the camera companies have done a good job convincing people that if they just buy the right camera, they can be a “pro” too. Well, I can’t make you a pro in one day, but I can help you to use your fancy camera, plus a few tips & techniques to vastly improve your photos. I’m starting with just a beginner class for now, so if your interested just go here…
Also…we are giving out $100 gift certificates, good for any of our products (prints, albums, etc.), to the next 25 seniors who book with us. Get yours before they run out!
One of the reasons that I became a photographer was that I just really didn’t like what was out there, locally anyway. So as we started building our business we tried to form it so that we were using the best ideas that we could think of (or “borrow”) in terms of service, pricing, products etc. Now, almost everything here can be, and has been, debated and I’m not silly enough to think that I’m about to end the arguments “once & for all”. But after all is said and done, you’re the customer and what matters most to YOU is what matters most to you. What do I mean about that? Well, just this. Cameras, lights, professional affiliations, etc. …All that stuff that we use to lure you in. Ask yourself, ” Do I really care?” Do I really care how expensive this guys camera is? Do I really care who he knows? Do I really care about anything other than, “Does he take good photographs?”.
Well, the answer is yes, but let’s try to narrow the list down to things that really matter.

In your search for a photographer, often you will come across…
The ” Gear head” -
“We use only the top of the line, professional, ”Brand X” equipment to achieve the best result..
Ever notice how the only people who want you to think that certain cameras make better pictures either want to sell you one, or happen to own them? A little common sense here is in order. Camera manufacturers, like any company, advertise the quality of their product, many times with wording that most people only partially understand. With digital cameras, the buzzword today is MEGAPIXELS, and the advertisers hype “bigger is better”. Far too many photographers (and consumers) get sucked into this propaganda, after all it seems to make sense. “The more information that I can stuff into a file the better.” The simple fact is this… If your photos aren’t good in the first place, getting a camera with more megapixels will only allow you to enlarge your crappy photos. Rarely do I see clients who are willing to pay for enlargements big enough to tell a noticeable difference in file size. Continue Reading…
As you begin looking for a photographer for your needs, you will come across a lot of statements that are meant to sway your opinion and “help” you make your choice. I’m not here to judge the validity of the claims, (they may very well be true), I’m just trying to help you cut through the advertising hype and make a logical choice. A choice that is based on what YOU want.
Along the way I’m adding comments on things that I personally think are ridiculous.
Today we will be looking at what I call…
The “Artist” -

If you are in the market for a photographer, then there are many different things you must understand before you make the choice. Not surprisingly, the abilities / talent of the photographer need to be taken into account. Price is always a factor. But what about education, awards, affiliations, artistic honors, equipment, special offers, etc. that so many photographers promote? Will they really insure that you won’t be disappointed in the end? In my next few posts we will explore some of the things you should look out for while doing your research. You are researching , right?. While most of what you read in the following posts is accepted practice in the profession, and for the most part I’m not here to criticize, the bottom line is that, in my opinion, as a consumer you should get what YOU want, not what omeone else thinks you ought to have.
Now, let’s explore some of the “key phrases” and “catch words” that you may come across in your search.
